Cosmo threads

I have for some time wanted to stock embroidery threads but have always seemed to put it off. But a visit from Rhys last Monday changed all that when he showed me his wares. I couldn't resist and have ordered some of the lovely Cosmo stranded threads……112 different colours in total! Unfortunately they won’t arrive until November….but with September here tomorrow I’m sure November will be here before we know it. Glasshouse Candles

Just a quick post to show you some of the lovely new Glasshouse candles that arrived yesterday.

I have stocked these beautiful candles and diffusers for a couple of years now. They make great gifts for someone else or just you! The fragrances are terrific and I have included a couple of new ones this time round……..including Lizard Island (lemon flora) and Esperance (mimosa and wild apple). I also have Strasbourg (apple and cinamon) and Caracas (frangipani) back in stock.

Don’t forget the room diffusers which last for 4 – 5 months …..mine lasted 8 months!……fragrances include: Cumquat Mandarin (new); Passionfruit & Lime (new); Tuberose; and Wood, Jasmine & Vanilla. Both the candles and diffusers are only $32.50 each, which is well below the rrp.

Class List and Newsletter

Wow what a wintery blast we are experiencing at the moment…..rain, hail, thunder, lightning and the wind……..Mother Nature must be reminding us that it is still Winter and not to get too excited about Spring just yet. The local creeks and rivers have broken their banks and are flooding adjoining farm land. Our farm is at the head of our catchment so the water in our creek tends to get away fairly quickly. With all of our dams well and truly full and overflowing (they have been for a couple of months) all of the runoff now heads down to the Scotts Creek which flows into the Curdies River which heads out to sea at Peterborough. Well enough of the geography lesson for today and onto much more important issues………..my newsletter / class list. Yes it is finished and I have uploaded it under the Photo Albums down the left hand side of your screen. A reminder to anyone who put their name down for the Christmas Club and / or the Material Girls Club that you need to confirm your place and session time by Monday 31^st August.

I’m off to finish making my Pea and Ham soup for tea and then spend the evening by the warm fire.

Almost there.

Well the past week has been another blurr on the fast disappearing 2009 calender. I have been trying to complete the samples for the Semester 2 classes which by the end of the weekend will hopefully be done. I will get the newsletter out early next week…..I find that I work better under the pressure of a deadline…..besides if the Christmas Club girls are going to fit 4 projects in between now and December I’d better get cracking. So to tempt you here is a sneak peek of just one of the classes……..

A few pretty pictures of the garden ……..something to remind us that Spring is just around the corner.

I love these little daffodils. They were given to me by a dear friend a couple of years ago……..the snails seem to love them as much as I do though!

I planted cinerarias for the first time this year and they have rewarded me with a beautiful display.

Here are the ones I planted on the eastern side of the shop.

Good Intentions

Good intentions……well that was what I had this morning. Today was going to be spent in the garden – something that I haven’t done anything in for quite a few weeks. Okay……but first we have to ear tag some of the calves…..that only took about 15 minutes – great. Oh but the postie has just delivered our newspapers and Wednesday is the best day of the week as we get 3 papers - the local Cobden Times (Russell calls it the egg timer as it only takes him about 3 minutes to read – but I like to have a good read and catch up on the local goss); The Weekly Times (a must in any farming house) and the Warrnambool Standard. Just a quick read and then I’ll get into it……before I knew it it was 11.30! Well I might as well have an early lunch and while eating lunch do the suduko …….. something I have only just learnt how to do but am enjoying the challenge…mind you I’m not very good at them yet! Finally at about 1pm I was in the garden. Mmmmmm it is soooooo wet that I was really restricted as to what gardening I could actually do ……….and I found that my gardening rubber boots had 2 holes in them! I decided to start on pruning my roses and managed to get the ones out the front of the shop entrance done. Shirley – one of the lovely ladies in the Material Girls Club and an avid rose grower told me that I can prune in any month that hasn’t got an ‘r’ in it……May, June, July & August…....so now that I’ve finally made a start I’d better get my backside into gear as there isn’t much of August left and I’ve got lots more to prune. I really can’t wait for the weather to warm up……roll on Spring.

Pattern of the Month - August

I can’t believe that it is August already……..the year is flying by. The best thing about August is that we are getting closer to September and Spring time which means that I’ll be able to get back out in the garden again. It has been impossible for me to do anything much outside for the last couple of months – just too wet and cold and too many cows and calves to tend to. The worst thing about August is that traditionally it is our wettest month of the year……yeah…..NOT! The ground is already saturated and cannot hold anymore moisture and all of our dams have been overflowing for about a month. Maybe the howling south winds will blow some rain clouds further north, where it is needed more.

On a brighter note the start of a new month means a new Pattern of the Month deal. This month I feature "In Mum’s Kitchen" by Leanne at Petals and Patches  .

 

With every "In Mum's Kitchen" pattern purchased in August receive any other pattern at 1/2 price.   

I had a visit about a month ago from Leanne, who bought some of her patterns in to show me. Although I only have a few of her designs in stock at the moment, they are proving popular. If anyone is interested in any of Leanne’s designs please let me know and I can order it in for you.
