Out with the old

About a month ago the unspeakable happened………our computer died! It must have been well over ten years old,….not sure how long that is in computer years but it would be old! It had an old square box monitor and was slow and steady, but over it’s last six months of life it was starting to do and ‘say’ funny things. The girls had long complained about it but it was like that old pair of shoes……..reliable, comfy and easy to ‘use’. Well we had to buy a new one, but luckily the computer guru was able to save our files…..phew! The new programs have taken a bit to get used to…….and the screen is just soooo big…….no more scrolling backwards and forwards to read things. The one thing that we did have problems with was our email address book. So if you didn’t get a shop update email from me last week please contact me and I’ll pop you back on my database. …….that includes you Becky! Or if you would like to go on my database you can also let me know.

Hexagon Quilt update........Week 23

Yes that's right.....I have been working for 23 weeks on my Hexagon Quilt.........averaging 4 hours a day for every day since the start date of 11th April. Way back on the 1st August I set myself the target of finishing the next border in 8 weeks. Well I only just missed that target by 3 days........but I finished it this morning. So on the 1st August it looked like this........

The border added 2,957 hexagons with the total now standing at 7,350. It currently measures 128cm across (from point to point). Here is a closer view of the border.

 
The next border isn't really very exciting at all............it is 11 rows of hexagons with every second row being the off white as in the previous similar borders. I'm going to try and ramp up my output so have set an ambitious target of 8 weeks to complete it in. At times I feel that I wont meet the 1st May 2011 deadline......but I try not to think too much about it as that time would be better spent stitching hexagons!

Spring?......Sprung?.....Where?

 
Although the daffodils are telling us that Spring is here it still feels very much like Winter. Actually I think that Mother Nature needs to get out the wooden spoon and tell Winter to just bugger off and leave us alone! A big thunder storm hit while I was milking last night and although the cows didn’t seem all that worried about it I was pannicing in fear the power went off. I was on my own so I was thankful when the job was done and I was back inside the house. Usually dogs don’t like thunder storms but Lister was just sitting at the end of the pit unfazed by all of the flashes, rumbles and sudden bangs. At least one of us was calm!

For those waiting to see Lenora’s ‘Harmony of Hexagons’ Quilt for her upcoming class in October, it is now hanging in the shop.

 
There have been lots of lovely comments and oohhs and aahhhs……..maybe Lenora will forget that it is here and leave it for me……lol!

I could just about scream......

What a week it has been..........blasted printer!!!! Went to Warrnambool on Monday to get the new black cartridge for the printer so that I could print the newsletters and get them in the mail. Easy.........well not really. Popped the new cartirdge in, turned it on and the message read 'replace toner'...........WHAT! ........read it again and it was actually the magenta cartridge that had run out not the black like I assumed.......DOOH! Okay easy fixed..... I rang the retailer and asked for them to send me out the required cartridge by courier. No problems.......at least I will get it by Wednesday at the latest........well that's what I thought...........didn't arrive til Thursday afternoon.........yikes.......better set the printer going.......off to milk........back again to finish off the sheets with the address labels..........printing 1 of 170.......printing 2 of 170......up to 22 of 170 then 'replace toner' this time it's the other 2 cartidges. Of course with our laser printer wont print unless all cartidges have toner.........damn! Oh well out with the pen. So after hand addressing about 150 newsletters they are now in the mail........phew.
