Hexagon Quilt Update - Week 54.5

I have spent the last couple of weeks putting the finishing touches on my 'Dear Prudence' Hexagon Quilt. It spent just over a fortnight stretched on the frame while I 'quilted' the layers together. I had to mark my spots with pins so that I could keep track of which parts I had done. 

 
It looked strange.....all these pins stuck into the quilt.....but it worked a treat.

I then trimmed off the border. I had made it wider than I needed on purpose.....it's a lot easier to cut it back than to wish it was wider. After laying different fabrics down along the edge, it was a unanimous decision (me and Russell) that I use the cream for the binding. So on the morning of Tuesday 26th April the end was reached. Russell captured the moment.....the last stitch

 
 ..... I just wish I was dressed a little better other than in my work clothes!

I still have to make my quilt label (which will include just a 'few' more hexagons).......and also stitch the hanging sleeve down.......but the entry form has been posted off for the exhibition. It is now out of my hands and I await to hear whether it will be accepted into the exhibition.

So after 54.5 weeks........1,300 hours........17,977 hexagons...........approximately 500,000 stitches..........my journey draws to an end.......THE quilt is now finished. I'd like to thank everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the way ....... especially Russell. He has been so supportive and patient with me, has offered his advice and done the maths along the way. I could not have done it without him.

Hello my name is Linda...

and I think I may have just started something that I won't be able to stop. A new addiction.......oh no! Don't worry it's not alcohol.......never been a drinker.....I'm silly enough without it...lol! And it's not cigarettes.......very bad for your health. And it's certainly not gambling.......fabric is much more fun to spend my money on.

I have just purchased my very first antique quilt. I was on ebay the other day and was just mucking around and decided to search for hexagon quilts. Up popped a list and on the list was a 1930's Antique Hexagon Quilt.......with the exchange rate soooo good it was toooo good to pass up. So with a click or two of the mouse I had bought it! And today I picked it up from the post office.

So my collection begins. 

My first Hexagon Quilt was made in 1978 (or thereabouts) by me when I was sweet 16.

 
My newest is in the quilting stage

 
and now my Oldest (1930's - maker unknown) looks like this

It looks liked it is machine pieced but it has been hand quilted.

Do you think I need help or another Quilt to add to my collection?

Glammed up

It was on with the glad rags on Friday night as we attended the Cobden Technical School's Annual Deb Ball. It has been a few years since I have been to one as Hannah's deb was 4 years ago. The hall was packed by the time we got there, but that didn't matter as both Russell and I were lucky enough to have been allocated seats. So why were we there? Well the young lady we were off to see was our niece Sarah. She looked beautiful and all grown up!....here she is with Hannah

 
Before the camera battery died we were able to get this nice shot of the three of us.

 
It was a lovely night and I even got the chance to catch up with some friends who I haven't seen for a while.

Hexagon Quilt update - Week 50

Well here it is.....and I can't believe that it has been almost 12 months since I cut out and stitched my first hexagon in this massive project. Here is the last heaxagon......number 17,977

(Check out all of those fussy cut little flowers......Are you insane!!!!!.....yes it does help at times but it was worth it!)

well at least until the finishing off process starts.....that stage starts tonight!

Now if you remember I wasn't allowed to show you any more photos of the quilt top .............but no-one said anything about the back of the quilt! So here is a close up shot

The quilt looks just as nice on the 'wrong' side as the 'right' side......in some ways it will be a shame to cover this up with wadding and backing.......maybe that's why Prudence left her quilt unfinished.
