A milestone birthday

Birthdays come and go every year. Sometimes we celebrate them, and sometimes life is just too busy to make a fuss. But some birthdays deserve a big fuss......and this weekend we chose to have a big celebration as Russell's Mum celebrated her 90th birthday. Saturday night most of the family were able to go out for a special dinner. Yesterday I organised an afternoon tea for Pearl and it was lovely to see her friends and neighbours spend time chatting and enjoying the day. Emma, Hannah & Sarah helped too.......and this is Hannah's photo that she compiled from her new polaroid camera.

When Pearl turned 70 we organised a party, when she turned 80 we had an afternoon tea, when she turned 90 we had a weekend celebration......now what will we do for her 100th?

Scrumptious Stacked Squares

It's been raining again......quite a lot. I'm not sure where Spring has gone but it certainly isn't here at the moment. On an up side it is perfect weather for stitching.......actually any weather is perfect for stitching, but sitting inside when it is raining makes one feel less guilty about doing it.....lol! Today I finished a new quilt....yay! Ever since 'Scrumptious' arrived I have been keen to stitch up a quilt for the shop. I found a great pattern on the Moda Bake Shop site that really caught my eye. The original 'recipe' uses precuts, but there is quite a bit of wasted fabric doing it this way. After a bit of maths, I decided to cut the fabric up off the bolts.So here is the quilt : Stacked Squares

I am notorious for getting quilt tops finished and then just pinning them up in the shop.....never to get them quilted and bound. But no more! .......I have booked the quilt in with Margaret & Wendy from Clever Ducks Quilting and I WILL get it finished.

Now to piece the backing fabric.

Cobden Quilt Show

Yesterday I made a quick trip to Cobden to visit the Cobden Quilters Quilt Show. The show is held every second year and it is always great to see the wonderful quilts and projects that are made by some very talented ladies. It was hard to take great photos as the venue is only small but here are some snaps of just a few of the quilts.

Christmas is on it's way so these ladies are all organised with their festive quilts and decorations.

Anne's beautiful Springtime Dresdans. This is one of Lenora's patterns and it would look great in the new 'Scrumtious' fabric range.

And finally because I love frogs......Sandra's Frog Frenzy quilt.

Congratulations ladies on a great show and I can't wait for the next one in 2015.

Scrumptious Pre-cuts

The pre cuts for 'Scrumptious' have arrived.

The fat quarters are folded

and some are bundled up

But all ready for loving new homes.

It all started quite innocently really. Checking out facebook and came across a cute video of cats sleeping in dog beds. The site name should have been a warning for me......The Vegan Woman.....but I decided to scroll down through the comments and see what people were saying. Well when the aforementioned site owner made reference to cruelty by dairy farmers etc it was like a red rag to a bull.....if you pardon the pun! I made a short comment about how we do care for our cows on our farm and left it at that. But oh no......her follow up comment also set off a few other facebookians and away it went. Now don't get me wrong, I believe that everyone has the right to choose how they live their own lives and what they eat. If you want to be a Vegan go ahead, but please do not force your way of life onto everyone else, and in particular by spreading untruths about farming. I have left another comment asking her how they propose that we feed the 7 billion plus world population a Vegan diet. I am awaiting her reply. So in the meantime I have made a Pavlova with cream and strawberries for dessert......wonder what the Vegan equivalent would be......using no eggs and no real cream?

I'm off to lick the beaters!

Scrumptious for sure

'Scrumptious' is the newest range to arrive in the shop and it is designed by mother and daughter team, Bonnie and Camille.

You might remember the 'Ruby' range of fabrics that I had a couple of years back......that was also a Bonnie and Camille range. So if you loved 'Ruby' (which I know a lot of you did), then you will love 'Scrumptious'.

I have cut up lots of fat 1/4's and will spend tomorrow folding and bundling them up. I am waiting on the pre-cuts (Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes and Charm Packs) to arrive from my distributor. They shouldn't be far away which is exciting!

Almost back to normal......whatever that is

Thank you to everyone who has wished me a speedy recovery after my blog post 2 days ago. Yes I wrote the post.....it wasn't my Mum. I am feeling much better but now have an annoying cough which just does not want to go away. This has lead me to cancel a few appointments and even a class. I will be back real soon with some delicious photos of a new delivery.......just one hint.....it's simply Scrumptious!

Not a pretty sight

Dear Blog Readers,

Linda has been absent from blogging due to an URTI. She hasn't been ill for over 2 years so I don't think she has done too bad. It has hit her hard as she sounds like crap, feels like crap and, just between you and I, she looks like crap! Although she said that her worst day was Friday, it is taking a bit for her to recover. Unfortunately there was no time for resting up in bed as Russell was away for 3 days and she had to milk the cows.

Hopefully she will be back blogging very soon.

2013 Christmas Club

Just a quick blog post to let you all know that there are a couple of vacancies for the Christmas Club which starts on Monday. Over the three classes you will make three new Christmas themed projects. It is run in the same way as the Material Girls Club with everything supplied to make your project.....and it is pre-cut for you! We will be making this Christmas table runner using the lovely 'Wintergreen' range of fabrics on Monday.

Class dates are: Monday  7th October; 4th November; & 2nd December.Choose from either the afternoon class 12.30pm - 3pm, or the evening class 7pm - 9.30pm. The cost is just $25 per class.
