Goodbye Benji

For the last ten weeks we have had an extra boarder at the farm. We first met him back in early December when Hannah bought him out to meet us when he was a cute little puppy.

So when Hannah and I headed to the US, Russell and Lister looked after Benji. Lister loves Benji.....and Benji loves Lister. Benji learnt how to enjoy life on a farm away from his city abode of small backyard, sleeping on a bed and generally being spoilt. He quickly learnt about cows and calves and all the joys that they bring. He learnt how to eat his meaty bites quickly with Lister hovering and waiting. He enjoyed the free milk and other farm 'delights'. He caught his first mouse. And he got dirty........very dirty!

So today when Hannah came to the farm to take him home to Colac she had to give him not one bath but four baths!

So Lister is now all alone and will miss him heaps......or will he....lol!

Shop closed for Meday

Since I didn't get to spend very much time at the Melbourne Craft and Quilt Show on Thursday I have decided to close the shop tomorrow (Sunday) and head back down to Melbourne for a 'ME' day. I am looking forwarding to looking at all of the beautiful quilts on display, browsing the stalls and catching up with friends. I am also going back to see 'Elenor Jean' again as she has been moved to a more prominent area and hopefully chat about her to anyone that is interested enough to listen. I have got the day off milking so I WILL be spending the whole day there......hopefully I might see some of you there too.

'Elenor Jean'

Well where do I start.

When I made Prudence I never dreamt the journey she would take me on.

When I finished Elenor Jean, I was relieved that I had finished 2.5 years of stitching and that I had made the Victorian Quilters Quilt Showcase deadline.......and after today I am not quite sure where she will lead me. Today she won first prize in the Traditional Quilt - Professional Class of Quilt Showcase and also the Best of Show award. I have always admired past winners and thought that I would never ever win such a prestigious award. Today I was proven wrong.

I was thrilled that Russell was able to be there with me as we have been in Melbourne for a few days (moving Emma into her new house). Emma and Hannah (who had just flown in from the USA only a few hours earlier) were also there.

I would like to thank Bernina Australia for their fantastic sponsorship of the award and I will soon be the proud owner of a beautiful new sewing machine.

I will bring 'Elenor Jean' home in early August, after her valuation session. She will be with me until AQC 2015 when the Best in Australia Award will be judged, and then she will be travelling the country with the other Best of Show State winners.

What will I do now?

We have spent the last 952 days together.

We have travelled on planes, trains and buses.....and in a car, ute and even on the farm bike.

We have visited Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.....even Las Vegas, Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon and New York.

We have been to meetings, dentists, doctors, accountants and even go-kart race meetings together.

Now that the 22,437 hexagons are stitched,

and the binding is done,

the label is attached......

so it's time to fold her up and place her carefully in her very special quilt bag. Tomorrow I take 'Elenor Jean' to Geelong to await her trip to the Victorian Quilters Quilt Showcase next week. I will spend the next seven days crossing my fingers and hoping that the judges love her just as much as I do.

More Tape Measure Bangles

They have been very popular and my new shipment arrived yesterday.......yes more Tape Measure Bangles. I now have 8 colours in the 3/4" wide ones.......

And 7 colours in the 1/2" narrower bangles........

They are available for purchase online.......3/4" wide for $9.50 each or 1/2" wide for $8.00 each.

And of course they are at the shop as well!

PS. While the thin light blue bangle looks light blue in the photo, in real life it is more like light purple than blue.

Stitcher's Revolution designs

The 'invention' of iron on transfers for stitchery projects has certainly made it easier to get those designs onto your fabric ready for the fun part of stitching. There are quite a few patterns available which contain the transfers along with the design on paper as well. While I was Quilt Market, Hannah and I did a Take & Teach session using one of the designs from a Stitcher's Revolution pattern pack.

The packs come with the stitchery designs featured on the front......and they are all on an iron-on transfer sheet (A2 in size).

Just cut around the transfer you would like to use....iron on to your desired fabric and away you go. There are full instructions in the pack, and also a colour guide for your reference.

The ideas are endless........... bags, wall hangings, quilts, bibs......great for young stitchers!

I only have 5 designs in stock at the moment, but at only $5.50 each I'm sure that I will be ordering more from the lovely Brooke!
