February and Christmas are two words that should never appear in the same sentence but it has. Gail Pan's brand new Christmas range 'All things Christmas' arrived this week.....yes on the 21st February.....it took me by surprise as it wasn't due in until April. Gail gave me a lovely fat quarter bundle late last year and I thought that I had plenty of time to design, make and kit up a new block of the month ready for when the fabric was delivered........ummm......NO! So Wednesday I pulled out the fat quarters and the blenders that I had put aside and started work on the quilt. I began with some pretty baubles.

I then spent my time in the Farmers Wife Stitch along group on Thursday making Christmas blocks. (I promise to be back Farmers wifering next month!)

After 2 big days of stitching I had enough done to be able to tell that I am going to love this quilt when it is finished.

 And today I gatecrashed a Saturday Stitching group's get together in the classroom so that I could get some more blocks stitched.....thanks Sue!

I am hoping to have the quilt top finished within the next fortnight, so I will have more details available then......number of months, price, size, starting date etc.....so stay tuned.I have just uploaded the 15 fabrics plus the panel onto my online shop for those of you interested in purchasing some for your stash. 

Off to stitch some more little baubles.

Beyond the Porch.....new Block of the Month

For those of you who have been waiting patiently for Natalie's new Block of the Month to be ready, your wait is over......I will have the first month ready for posting on Monday.

I am still only part of the way through making up my sample..........well I am almost half way.......and I am loving the way that it is coming together. If you would like to check my blocks out for your self they are up on the design wall in the classroom.

The program runs for 9 months and is priced at $28 per month (plus postage). This includes the fabric for the applique, dresdan plates, background, border and binding, along with the monthly pattern sheets. It does not include the embroidery threads......which most people have a stash of. The finished size of the quilt is 188cm x 188cm.

Please remember that by signing up for any Block of the Month you make a commitment for the full running of the program. As you can appreciate half a Block of the Month program is useless (and costly) to me......and you.

Fat finger syndrome

Years ago we invested money in a company that we believed in......Warrnambool Cheese & Butter. We were suppliers and when they needed to raise capital and floated the company on the ASX we extended our overdraft to buy shares.......a deal that certainly paid off. A few years ago we backed Saputo's bid to take over the company, but chose to sell our shares on the stock market......hence a problem. Russell listed our shares but unfortunately listed the incorrect amount.......why fat farmers fingers and iPad keyboards don't mix. The result was we were left with one single share in the company......lol! Over the years we have joked that we were one of only about 10 shareholders in the company.......that we could go to the shareholders meetings........that we got to vote on stuff.......we were even offered a share deal to increase our holding! Recently Saputo announced that they were going to initiate a total buy out of shares and on Friday we got our offer.

The paperwork is signed and we say goodbye to our one single share in Warrnambool Cheese & Butter.......but we will be $8.85 richer......woohoo!

Stitch in Spring.......Part 2

So I hope that you are all excited that Melissa Grant will be joining us for the very first time at the Stitch in Spring this September. Those who have attended before will know that I have 2 tutors, and I am very excited to announce another first time tutor........ Anni Downs from Hatched and Patched has also accepted my invitation to attend.

Anni and her husband Peter will travel down from Bathurst in New South Wales, and as they are driving down Anni tells me that they will be able to bring lots of lovely samples and patterns with them. Anni describes her style as vintage country with a touch of whimsy. She likes to combine stitchery, applique and piecing to create quilts, bags, table runners, plus many other bits and pieces. It will be exciting to see Anni in Port Campbell and I am sure that there will be lots of ladies eager to come along and meet her.

Part 3 will have all of the details for the 2017 Stitch in Spring......stay tuned!

Stitch in Spring 2017.....Part 1

Over the next 3 days I will be revealing some very exciting news about the 2017 Stitch in Spring. Today I thought that I would start by introducing one of our 2 tutors that will be designing something very special for you to stitch.

I am excited to announce that Melissa Grant from One Day in May will be joining us this September.  For those unfamiliar with Melissa's beautiful creations, you can check them out on her website 'One Day in May'. 

Melissa has a particular love of combining techniques and textures.....simple embroidery, patchwork, applique, semi-detached applique and embellishment come together, creating projects with a textural and dimensional quality.

I can wait to see what projects Melissa designs for the Stitch in Spring........I'm sure that they will be beautiful......no pressure Melissa!

Zigging and zagging

This probably best describes my life at the moment as I move from one job to another......planning, ordering, bookwork, Show stuff, Retreat stuff......with a bit of stitching thrown in. Last Monday was my first class for the year and I was organised with the pre-cut kits for the ladies to stitch. As always I make up extra kits to have in the shop and I'm sure that these won't last long at all. It is a new table runner called 'With a zig and a zag'. I started by making up my sample in the purple colourway.

But looking at the red fabric from the French General range 'Ville Fleurie', I decided to make up a red version.

I really can't decide which one I like the best.

The runner measures 37cm x 74cm, and the kit comes complete with everything that you need to make the runner for just $30. I have them listed on my online shop, so if you would like one click here to order.

And just like that.

Yep....and just like that January disappeared and we are into February.....the last month of Summer and usually the hottest.......a good time to stay inside and stay cool. I have had some special deliveries lately, but have a little work to do before I can reveal too much more, but I can tell you that I have big plans for a weekend of stitching! I have also made a promise to myself that I will be more organised for all of the shows that I will be traveling to over the coming months. AQC is the biggest and I always seem to be running around like crazy during the weeks days in the lead up to it.......but not this year.....no more 'last minute Linda' for me. I am also known as 'list maker Linda' and I am hoping that this will help to keep me on track. One job almost off the list is the printing of my advertising Postcards.

I just need some new photos on the front and I will be done.......tick!

Dinner is calling my name and then it will be onto some bindings to stitch down....my night is planned!
