A whale of a weekend

Back in early March I received a lovely parcel in the mail from the team at Two Green Zebras. It was a gorgeous fat quarter bundle of the new 'Sunkiss' fabric by Tilda.

My plan was to make up some new samples using the fabric prior to it being released on the 1st May. I was to start with a quilt after the 'Stitching by the Sea' Retreat. After everything that happened during and after the Retreat, and then with AQC fast approaching, my Tilda sewing adventures were put on the back burner. The fabric sat there pleading to be made up into something beautiful, so Saturday morning I started. 

I had fallen in love with the Whale Quilt when I attended the Australian Quilt Market last November, and it was the reason that I ordered the fabric. However because I want to make a few more projects from my precious bundle I decided to change the pattern slightly and just make up 5 whales and not include the 'half' whales as per the original quilt. With just the eyes to stitch on before it goes off to be quilted, I am very pleased with the way it has turned out.

It's such a fun quilt! Now what to make next?

Cosmo threads

Back in February I blogged about the Cosmo stranded threads that I have in stock. For many years I have had the full range of the plain stranded threads in stock......

and I have also had a select number of the Cosmo Seasons variegated threads. A few months ago I made the decision to stock all of the Seasons variegated threads, including the 5000; 8000; and 9000 series. Last week, while I was away at AQC, the boxes containing the remainder of the threads arrived. Oh my.....they were the best packed parcels that I have ever had delivered.......a box inside a box inside a box!

It was a bit like a pass the parcel game......lol! All that effort was certainly worth it.........60 beautiful threads.

Ten years

Some days are just sad days. Days that you wish were different, but know you cannot change.

Today marks ten years since Dad passed away. It is so hard to believe that it has been ten years since he was with us. Sometimes it seems like only a few months has passed while at other times it seems like so much longer. 

I still miss Dad's phone calls and visits, and talking about the farm, cows and how much rain we had measured.

Life goes on.....but some days are just sad.

Material Girls Club

Yes it’s back again for 2018 with a new lot of projects to make and enjoy. A chance to get away from it all for a few hours, different projects each month to keep or give away as gifts, everything is included (and pre-cut), take home something finished! It also includes a coffee / tea and something to eat. What more could a material girl want!
Dates: Monday 16th April....yes next Monday, and then 21st May and 18th June

Time: Afternoon class 12.30pm - 3pm or Evening class 7pm - 9.30pm

Cost: $25 per month, with a commitment of the full 3 classes. If you can't make it you still get your kit.

Book signing at AQC

I am pleased to say that my friend Gail Pan has offered to come along to my stand at AQC tomorrow morning (Thursday 5th) at 10.30am and sign copies of her new book 'Patchwork Loves Embroidery Too'.

Gail will be there for about 1 - 1.5 hours so if you would like to get a copy and have a talk to Gail, pop along to stand 46. The books are $40 each......autographed at no charge....lol!

And don't worry if you can't make it on Thursday......she will sign the rest of the books and leave them with me to sell over the event. I just have to remember to save myself one!

AQC 2018

Russell: "That doesn't look very much"

Me: Arrggggh! Closely followed by panic and packing heaps more......now I am hoping that I can fit it all in to the ute!

If you are attending AQC in Melbourne this week, pop by and say 'hi'........I'm at stand 46......where I have been for the last 4 years.

While I am away at AQC the shop will be closed, but I will be open again on Thursday 12th April.

Well that didn't work

Well Linda, back on the 29th January you blogged about how you had set a target for making a minimum of one new project a week in the lead up to AQC in April. How has that worked out for you?

Yes I did make that plan and it started out okay for the first 3 weeks and then other things happened and life got in the way. I have been slightly under the pump for the last fortnight  (or so) trying to get as much prep done as possible for AQC which is under a week away. The extra hour we gained overnight has been welcomed and with a few early mornings and late nights I think that I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. 

With the arrival of the pretty 'Garden Delights II' fabric range by Gray Sky Studio, I have made and kitted up two new projects. The first was this new 'Spring Flowers' Table Runner.

and the other is the 'fresh off the machine' Garden Delights Bag.

Kits for both projects will be available at AQC, and I will list them on my website after I return. I will also have fat quarters of the Garden Delights II fabric at AQC.
