As promised yesterday, I am back today with Part 1 of my 2020 Stitch in Spring Blog post. It is hard to believe that this year will be my 10th Stitch in Spring event. Starting out way back in 2011 with the idea of bringing tutors to our area, I invited two friends, Lenora Jenkins and Gail Pan, to be tutors for the 70 ladies who attended the first event. Over the years I have had many different tutors from all over Victoria and Interstate, and have had over 1,040 ladies attend over the 9 years.
This year I am thrilled to announce that my first tutor will be the lovely Sophie Dawson from Sew Swish Designs of Sydney.
I have known Sophie for a number of years. Her parents own a rural tree change property not far from me, and I remember her calling in to the shop to get a fabric fix while leaving the kids on the 'farm'. I have watched as Sophie has developed her own style of quilting with a passion that is infectious, and since moving from Melbourne to Sydney she has launched her own designing label.
Here is a little from Sophie......
"Patchwork/ Quilting is my passion it inspires and motivates me every day. I have been sewing since I was a little girl. I have made everything from formal dresses, daily clothing, dolls, pouches and pencil cases. I made my first quilt when I was pregnant with my first little boy nearly 10 years ago. Since then I have been developing techniques in English Paper Piecing, hand piecing, machine piecing, appliqué, Broderie Perse and hand quilting. With a little encouragement (ok, a lot) I created Sew Swish Designs. I now have four patterns and another soon to be released.
I am a wife, mum to three gorgeous kiddies (5, 7 & 9) and Maggie our dog. I am old fashioned at heart with a modern spin and a great sense of humour.
I love to share my passion for quilting and my knowledge of this age old tradition. I love teaching and helping others find the joy, therapy and creativity that making a quilt brings".

Back tomorrow with Part 2!
Linda :)
