It never fails......every winter someone drives their vehicle over our large front lawn area and leaves wheel ruts in the ground. The final straw came in early August when a truck got bogged.....it was time to do something to deter these wayward drivers.
I decided to put in a garden bed along the edge of the track, leaving enough space at the top for vehicle access if required for functions, weddings, Powercor and us. We recycled some old pine posts for the edging and used the pile of compost that we had stored out the back.
Russell moved the soil this morning for me with the tractor, while I spread it all out.......and filled the remaining wheel ruts!
This afternoon, I dug up one large clump of Miniature White Agapanthus and divided it up and planted them along the track side border. As this area will get little or no watering (apart from what falls from above) in the dry months, and will be water logged in the Winter, the plants will certainly need to be tough to survive! I wandered around the garden and found some plants that fitted the criteria.......Cannas, Shasta Daisies, Bog Sage, Foxgloves, and Cerise Queen Yarrow.
I finished just in time for a downpour of rain to water them in. I know that they will look a little sad for a while, but with the next week's weather outlook being cool to mild, it was an ideal time to get them in. I do still have a bit more to plant.....I need to have another look around the garden........maybe some Daylillies, Dietes and Alstromerias........and then I will mulch the area. Hopefully it will do the trick!
Linda :)
